Shopping Local for Your EcoFriendly Baby

September 12, 2010
By Laura Krueger Rowe

When I was pregnant with our first child - I caught the shopping bug.  All the cute “must haves” and things you need for a baby were overwhelming!  Naturally - what came to mind was shopping at “big box” stores (Babies R Us, Target, Walmart etc) but you see the same product over and over again - and I highly doubt half of it is friendly towards our environment or to our babies.  I did a lot of online shopping - finding estores that sold organic items, non-BPA plastics and the like.   I did the same for the birth of our second child.
But now - it’s a different story!  Shopping for our newest addition (born 9/6/10) is going to be a local trip!  I have one place on my brain and one place only:  Luvaboos!

Luvaboos is located at 683 N. Winton Road in the North Winton Neighborhood (which happens to be our neighborhood as well, lucky us!).  Owner Heather Holt founded Luvaboos after the birth of their second child.  The Luvaboos vision is to “offer products and services that make Cloth diapering, baby wearing and natural parenting as simple for you as possible.”

Whether it’s cloth diapers (in dozens of styles and varieties), environmentally friendly toys, baby carriers, baby feeding supplies and even things for Mom - you’ll find something you need at every turn inside Luvaboos.
Probably best known as being “The Place” to shop for your cloth diapering needs, Luvaboos offers something really great for first timers: a two-week trail supply of diapers and diapering needs for $15.  Mix and match different items to make your own supply - then have fun trying them out.
My husband and I love baby wearing and own several different styles of carriers.  At Luvaboos you can find (and try on!) many different styles to see what will fit you and your baby best.

A bonus Luvaboos is offering is classes and events - often held on a weekly basis right in the store.  Get together with other parents for some fun with music, art and dance!  Luvaboos also offers Cloth Diapering 101 and Baby Wearing 101 classes.

Shopping for your baby is a fun experience - shopping environmentally friendly can be difficult at times in this arena.  Having places like Luvaboos is a great help.  All your shopping needs in one place - plus an owner who is committed to children and the environment who will answer all your questions with a smile!  Stop in, check them out - you’ll be finding any excuse to go back again!

Luvaboos is gearing up for a gently used sale - coming up on October 2nd.   Bring in your gently used cloth diapers, baby carriers and accessories and get 70% cash back on the sale - or 90% store credit.  Or, do a little shopping!  Email [email protected] for more information.
