PARK(ing) Day is Today!

September 17, 2010
By Colleen Doyle

Heads up, all of you urban creatives!  Today is the international event known as PARK(ing) Day!  There are so many lovely objectives associated with this event: urban renewal, creativity, innovation, a sense of play, community service, interconnectedness, and so much more!  Basically, folks pick out a metered parking space and turn it into a park for the day.  Anyone may participate!  If you’d like to know all about it, please visit the website: http://parkingday.org/

Please feel free to join me from 3p-6p for some free chair massage in the park!  Visit the temporary PARK(ing) Day installation on Gibbs St., generously sustained and developed by local urban creatives Rebecca Rafferty and Sarah Rutherford, and start your weekend off right with a massage!  Can’t make it for a massage?  You can still catch the fun at the installation until around 10pm tonight!

Are you excited about the idea of PARK(ing) Day, but don’t know how to be a part of it all?  Contribute by bringing something for the park installation on Gibbs Street!  Want more?  Visit the Rochester Contemporary Art Center at 137 East Ave (right around the corner from our Gibbs Street location) and see what they’ve put together!  Here’s their event page: http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/event.php?eid=127649670600440&ref=ts

We’ll see you in the park!
